We bring the community together each year for a fun-filled family day. There’s so much on offer: delicious food, unique crafts, live music, wandering entertainment and creative workshops. It’s an opportunity to celebrate our vibrant East End culture and support our homegrown talent. Independently run by local volunteers since 1999, the Festival is proud to represent the real spirit of our diverse neighbourhood.

Music
The stage has a full programme of music, singing and dancing
Local favourites and new sounds each year
Lineups have featured dhol drummers, Polish singers, Congolese bands (to name a few)

Local voices

Brilliant way of bringing the community together. Great fun for old and young

Stalls
Over 100 stalls line the street
Crafts, bric-a-brac, jewellery, knitting, clothes, toys, activities, local info and so much more

It was lovely to feel part of such a united and smiley community. Thanks!

I loved Forest Gate Festival. I enjoyed buying my teddy bear and my purple chicken the most.

Food
A varied menu for a diverse area
Home-cooked lunches to feed the hungry
Cakes, bakes and nibbles galore
No need to scream, we have ice cream!

A show of total community cohesion. I LOVE IT

Our free climbing wall is very popular with young people
A rich programme of activities for children under 5

Best day of my life

The Forest Gate Festival
is a local street festival organised by enthusiastic residents on a volunteering basis. Many of the artists, participants and stallholders are also local. It serves as a celebration of the whole Forest Gate community, attracting approximately 5,000 people each year. It’s a special and joyous day where we celebrate the people, talent, culture and the wonderful diversity of Forest Gate.

Children and young people
particularly like the many activities and love that the street stays traffic-free all day. Children have been spotted wearing their Festival T-shirts around the world! Sightings include Crete and Sri Lanka.

Community participation
includes Kay Rowe Nursery & Children’s Centre, the Woodcraft Folk, various schools, the Woodgrange Society and many more. We also have information stalls from official groups such as the local police, housing associations, Newham Council and similar. Community groups have long used the Festival to publicize their activities, reach new people and sometimes raise funds. The Festival has played a large role in kickstarting some of the community activities that take place in E7 and continue to this day.

Join us in 2022!
You might get a bargain from one of the stalls, a cup of tea and cake from another, and you will definitely feel part of a great community in Forest Gate.

Fantastic, lovely food, music and atmosphere. Wonderful community spirit – should have more!

Brilliant - one of the few genuinely diverse mixes of people brought together. Loved ukuleles!
